Today at work we had a birthday party for the kids in the Kindergarten program who have a birthday in March. I wasn’t sure what to expect, but it was a lot of fun. Normally the kids have a class from 11:20-12, 12-12:40, and lunch at 12:40. They didn’t have the 2 classes before lunch today because we had the birthday party instead. I was kind of surprised by that because it seems like a long time for a birthday party. We got all the Kindergartners in one room, except for the 3 kids we were celebrating. There was a table set up that had pizza, cake, and drinks on it. But that stuff was there only for the pictures.. we did other stuff before we actually had lunch. When the birthday kids walked in, we sang “Happy Birthday”, and they blew out the candles. Then the kids gave presents to their classmates. There’s 5 or 6 Kindergarten classes, and the classes are separated by names of the planets. So if a child from the Venus class had a birthday, each child in Venus would bring a gift for that child. I think the parents actually have to buy the presents and send them with the kids to give to their friends. After we did that, it was story telling time. 4 teachers had to read a book to the kids, and I was one of them. After that they played games and it was time for lunch. It was a lot of fun and was a nice break from having to teach some classes.
